A motorcyclist allegedly caught travelling at 232km/h on a Waikato road has appeared in court.
Steene Allan Metcalf, 21, was remanded without plea on charges of reckless driving, failing to stop while driving dangerously and driving while suspended.
The Hamilton engraver allegedly notched up one of the highest recorded speeds on Tuhikaramea Rd on March 3. He allegedly "freaked out" after spying police.
Police said they first saw Metcalf travelling at 80km/h in a 50km/h zone and that he reached nearly 150km/h as he went past a kindergarten and a primary school.
He allegedly sped off up Tuhikaramea Rd and police said they clocked him travelling at 232km/h.
Metcalf's counsel, Roger Laybourn, requested his client be remanded without plea.
A registrar granted him bail and ordered him to come back to Hamilton District Court on March 30.
Conditions of his bail include not selling his motorbike and not to drive.
