Two people are being treated by ambulance staff after a box at Auckland Airport was found to be leaking a mystery substance.
Emergency services are at the scene at DHL Express on Lawrence Stevens Drive where an investigation into the contents of the box is being carried out.
Paramedics were treating two people but their conditions are unknown.
A Fire Service spokeswoman said she had been told by ambulance staff that one person had opened up a shipping container and had become ill. She said the contents of the box were a mystery.
"They have said the box is not in the container. It contains a green rope and paper packages and something is leaking out of the paper packages."
The spokeswoman said the substance had now been isolated by emergency services.
"Apparently a box which wasn't in the shipping container was the culprit by the sounds of things and it had a rope and paper packages and the substance was spilling out of the paper packages."
She said one person had sustained minor injuries and they were being decontaminated by the Fire Service.
The Fire Service is still at the scene.
