A pedestrian has been hit by a car on Auckland's North Shore this morning.

A police spokesman said a person had been taken to hospital in a serious condition after being struck by a vehicle in Browns Bay.

Details of the age and gender of the accident victim was not known.

A section of Beach Road between Anzac and Argyle Roads was now closed to traffic while the Serious Crash Unit investigated.
