A man is being treated for gunshot wounds after a suspected gang-related shooting in Kaitaia.

The incident occurred early this morning, about 4.30am, on Archibald St.

The 26-year-old victim, who is believed to be a Black Power member, was flown to Whangarei Hospital where he was due to undergo surgery today.

HI injuries, thought to be to his legs, are serious but not life-threatening.

Kaitaia's last serious gang violence incident, the alleged murder of 35-year-old Lee Rata, occurred on New Year's Eve on Bonnett Rd.

That was believed to have been sparked by tensions within the Mongrel Mob.

Three men and a woman, all from Moerewa and with links to the Mongrel Mob, have been charged with murder and are currently in custody.

There is not thought to be a link between the two incidents.
