A milk tanker has rolled on a main road between the Coromandel and Thames this evening.

Emergency services are currently at the scene, on State Highway 25A, known as Kopu-Hikuai Road.

A spokesman for the northern fire communications centre said they were called to reports that a milk truck had rolled at about 9.30pm.

The driver was not injured or anyone else harmed - save for some spilt milk, he said.

A member of the public who contacted the Herald said he and his family had just passed the accident and that traffic was backed up, as a result.

"The trailer is still attached to the truck. Half of it is sticking out of the road."
