One person is trapped in a car after colliding with a Metrolink bus on Beach Rd about 7.03pm. No one on the bus was injured.

Fire, police and St John ambulance are on the scene.

Ajit Shetty was in his apartment, which overlooks Beach Rd, when he heard "a big crash". He ran to his balcony and when he saw what happened, he called the police.

"The whole front of the car was smashed," he told the Herald.

The finance worker said people standing on the street tried to help the man driving the car but couldn't get him out. Firefighters had to cut the man from the car and he was taken away in an ambulance, Mr Shetty said.

The man appeared to be unconscious.

More to come.
