Two helicopters are fighting a scrub fire north of Auckland this morning.

Fire Service northern shift manager Steve Smith said a fire was burning at Pouto, opposite Southhead on the Kaipara Harbour.

He said the alarm was raised at 5.20am.

Two helicopters with monsoon buckets were fighting the fire.

Three fire engines would tackle the blaze on the ground.

They were still heading to the remote beachside location.

Rural firefighters would also be joining them in the next hour.
