Ten people have been injured after a collision involving three cars and a truck near Taupo.
Emergency services were called to State Highway 1, just south of Taupo, at 2pm.
Fire Service spokesman Steve Smith told the Herald that 10 people were injured. Eight have status four or minor injuries and the other two have been taken to hospital in a more serious condition.
The southbound lane of SH1 was blocked for some time after the crash.
Fire Northern Communications spokeswoman Cara Larking told the Herald: "No persons were trapped and there were 10 people with minor injuries, two were transported to hospital by ambulance."
She said the extend of the injuries of those transported was unknown.
Fire services were no longer at the scene.
