An Auckland man is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit on the head with a hammer several times.
Police said he was attacked around 8.30 on Tuesday morning at a Te Atatu Peninsula property.
The victim's attacker fled the scene and was not found despite a number of police units and the Eagle helicopter being deployed immediately.
The injured man was taken to hospital in a serious condition, with a number of injuries including a fractured jaw.
Police are seeking the man accused of wielding the hammer, Renata Tangitu Panui, 32, who previously lived in the Te Atatu area.
There was also a warrant for his arrest for failing to appear in the Waitakere District Court in relation to a serious family violence matter.
Police said Panui was considered dangerous and should not be approached, but anyone who sees him should call 111 immediately.
The assault was not believed to have been random and the victim was known to the alleged offender.
