The lawyer who represented internet mogul Kim Dotcom has just been appointed a judge of the High Court.
Attorney General Chris Finlayson announced the appointment of Auckland QC Paul Davison yesterday.
It comes after a notable 40-year career in law that includes appearing before Royal Commissions of Inquiry into the Mt Erebus disaster and the prosecution of Arthur Alan Thomas.
He also acted for a number of New Zealand Vietnam War veterans in a class action seeking damages for the effects of exposure to Agent Orange.
Justice Davison also has an extensive criminal defence practice and was engaged by the Crown to assist in a number of high profile murder trials.
He will sit in Auckland.
Mr Dotcom last night tweeted his congratulations to his former lawyer saying he was on his path to Chief Justice of New Zealand, a position held by his late father Sir Ron Davison.
