A large tree branch has fallen on a car and blocked half a road in Te Puke, police say.
Police Northern Communications Inspector Kerry Watson said the police had received multiple calls this morning about a tree or large branch hitting a car about 7.45am.
A Western Bay of Plenty District Council communications adviser said detours were in place to allow contractors to remove the tree and clear the site.
They will be in place until at least mid-afternoon today.
A detour for west-bound traffic through Te Puke was put in place at Oxford/Queen/Jocelyn streets.
Motorists were warned they may experience delays.
However contractors anticipated the road would be fully open again before peak traffic begins.
