A woman who died in a car crash on the Haast Pass yesterday morning has been named by police.
Yi-Chieh Feng was a 30-year-old tourist from Taiwan.
The crash was reported on State Highway 6 shortly after 10am yesterday, police said.
Ms Feng was a passenger in a rental car, which was being driven by a 31-year-old man, who was also from Taiwan, at the time of the crash.
The male driver escaped without injury.
A serious crash investigation was now underway to establish the cause of the crash, police said.
Ms Feng's death has been referred to the coroner.
Police have asked anyone who was driving on SH6 between Fox Glacier and Haast Pass yesterday between 6am and 10am to contact them. Officers hoped to discuss road conditions with other motorists as part of the investigation.
