8.44am: The New Zealand dollar slipped as the US dollar strengthened after Federal Reserve officials signalled the US central bank is on track for a potential rate hike next month. The kiwi was at 64.65 US cents at 8am in Wellington, from 64.53 cents at the New York close and 64.73 cents at 5pm last Friday.

8.35am: Hundreds of midwives are launching court action today to sue the Government for allegedly paying them less because they are women. Read the full story here.
8.32am: This will be a story to follow this morning. At 9am, Jetstar will announce four new regional destinations it will start flying to later this year.
8.28am: A car has hit a pole in a crash that closed a part of State Highway 1B near Gordonton. Police Inspector Chris Tate said one person received moderate injuries in the smash.
In 10 days time the Queen will overtake Queen Victoria as Britain's longest-serving monarch. Check out this videographic that captures her reign.
8.15am: There might be some folks out there who wish they had read this on Saturday before heading to the pub. A pint of water after a big night? Or a takeaway to soak up the booze? There's no point, the only way to avoid a hangover is drinking less.
8.12am: An earthquake has shaken the lower North Island. The 4.4 magnitude quake was centred near Eketahuna at a depth of 11km.
8.08am: This is a cool graphic from MetService's Twitter account that shows the rain accumulation between now and midnight Tuesday. Watch out for that purple patch in Bay of Plenty!
7.54am: Traffic is heavy following the breakdown at Greenlane on-ramp. The breakdown has been cleared.

7.50am: Auckland Airport says seven domestic flights leaving Auckland were delayed and one domestic flight was cancelled, due to the fog. No international flights were affected.
7.47am:
Russian president Vladimir Putin is well known for his bizarre photo opportunities. He's been photographed shirtless on horseback, hunting a tiger, and now in the gym pumping iron.
7.37am: This rare nautilus species has been seen for the first time in 30 years. The species, which is called a living fossil, has been on earth for 500 million years. It was seen near Papua New Guinea by a scientist from University of Washington.
7.34am: It's slow also from the south to the city. Currently taking 55 minutes from Papakura into the city on the Southern Motorway.
7.30am: If you're coming in to the city from the North Shore it's a slow run this morning. Currently taking 50 minutes from Greville Rd to the city.
7.27am: Will two of Auckland's top school face soon face problems with a surge in students? More than 1800 apartments will be completed in the Auckland Grammar zone within three years, with 600 of those also falling in the Epsom Girls' Grammar area. Read more here.

7.18am: A retrial of Al Jazeera journalists in Egypt has found them guilty of broadcasting "false news" and sentenced them to three years in prison. Read the full story of what has happened here. A short video posted on Facebook by AJ+ sums it up well.
7.14am: Emirates Team New Zealand was victorious in Gothenburg today at the Louis Vuitton America's Cup World Series. Full story here.
7.10am: If you live in West Auckland you'll be keen to find out more about the new 'monster mall' being built. NorthWest will be the size of four rugby fields and feature some great shops. Find out more.

7.00am: In international news, two sisters in India were sentenced to be raped as "punishment" for their brother running away with a married woman from a higher caste. This is a distressing story.
6.46am: NZTA says fog on the Northwestern Motorway is heavy between Massey and Te Atatu. It is currently taking about half an hour to get from Royal Rd to the city on the Northwestern.
6.43am: Chris Rattue says there are plenty of holes in the All Blacks squad. "Four years in the making, it is dotted with untested, unfit, uncertain, under-done selections."Have a read of his take on the team here.

6.35am: The family of a 59-year-old Auckland man who has been missing since Saturday night are appealing for help to find him. Find out more here.
6.32am: It's going to be a wet day for Auckland and Northland and the rain has already begun. What's it like where you are? If you're on the roads this morning, take care and be patient.
6.28am: The warmest place to be this morning is the Winterless North. It is currently 14.8C in Kaitaia. It's a different story in the deep south, Gore is the coldest place in the country. It's 5.1C this morning.
6.24am: The healing power of leaves in Fiji will be the talking point for a long time to come. Waisake Naholo was included in last night's Rugby World Cup squad announcement, despite breaking his leg in his debut game for the All Blacks on July 17. Read more about his rapid recovery here.
6.20am: The latest update from Auckland Airport is that domestic trunk flights and international flights are operating normally.

6.13am: Fog restrictions are in place at Auckland Airport this morning. No flight schedules have been affected by fog yet, but we will keep you up to date on the situation.
6.10am: Police said the pair were found about 5.30am and were in good condition. We will be seeking more information from Police on what happened to the pair, and how they are doing this morning.
6.08am: Police said Search and Rescue teams were searching for the 51-year-old woman and the 9-year-old girl in the forest overnight. The pair had set off for a walk at 2pm, and didn't return home. Police said it was cold, but not freezing, and foggy, but not raining.
6.08am: A woman and child missing overnight in Pureora Forest in Waitomo District have been found alive and well.
6.06am: There is a bit of fog around Auckland this morning. The Northern Motorway wasn't affected by fog, but looking across to the city the Sky Tower was obscured by the low cloud.
6.04am: Spring is arriving with some stormy conditions around the country. MetService has issued warnings for heavy rain in Northland, Auckland, Coromandel, Waikato and the Bay of Plenty, and potentially severe gales in Waikato, Waitomo, Taumarunui and Taranaki today.
6.00am: Good morning everyone. It's the last day of winter today. I know plenty of people will be ready for some warmer spring weather.
