Police are on the hunt for a young man in relation to a shooting incident in Motueka last week.
Police said are seeking Jahdai Brice Kennard, 28 years in relation to investigations into the shooting incident on Thursday.
Ford William Hurinui, 27, underwent surgery after he was shot by police.
Police were alerted that Hurinui, who was wanted for breaching his parole conditions, was seen driving in Motueka, near Nelson, last Thursday.
Police found Hurunui with his vehicle about 3.30pm but he failed to stop.
A "short pursuit" ensued through residential streets of Motueka before coming to an end on a no-exit road, Wharepapa Grove.
Police allege Hurinui then got out and aimed a gun at officers, who attempted to negotiate with him.
He then attempted to flee on foot, but was pursued by police.
Hurunui was once again called on to surrender, but he failed to do so and once again aimed a gun at police.
He was then shot by police.Police are now hoping to speak to Kennard in relation to the incident.
He is described as Maori, 179cm tall and of medium build. He often has a dark beard.
Police said Kennard was believed to be driving a Green 1995 BMW 318i Saloon, with the registration number HHY596.
Anyone who knew the whereabouts of Kennard was asked to not approach him, and call police.
Police said they would also like to speak to any witnesses to last week's shooting, or anyone who may have taken videos or photographs of events surrounding the shooting.
