A knife-wielding man stole cash from a Queenstown liquor store this evening before stealing a car at knife-point and fleeing the scene.
Police said the man entered Henry's Liquor Store in Shotover St and demanded money.
He took a quantity of cash and ran from the store.
Once outside, and still armed with the knife, he stole a vehicle from a member of the public.
The offender and another person then fled in the stolen vehicle.
Police patrols and members of the public followed the stolen vehicle to the Mooney Rd area of Queenstown.
One of the people in the stolen vehicle was apprehended, but the other is still on the loose.
Police are currently searching for the second person with the help of a helicopter.
They are warning residents in the Mooney Rd and Dalefield Rd areas of Queenstown to ensure their vehicles and houses are secure. Residents should also leave outside lights on and report any suspicious activity.
Police said no other details were available at present.
