Firefighters on their way to a suburban house fire and a small van collided in Wellington this morning.
The crash happened on the corner of Owen and Constable St, in Newtown, around 9.30am as a fire engine raced to tackle a big blaze threatening two houses in nearby Berhampore.
Following the crash, at least one person was taken to Wellington Hospital with moderate chest injuries, Wellington Free Ambulance spokesperson Di Livingstone said.
A wrecked Toyota Previa-type MPV was seen in the area shortly afterward.
The Fire Service said the driver of the small van was taken to Wellington hospital but a passenger in the van was not injured.
The passenger of the Fire Service vehicle was also taken to hospital.
Wellington Assistant Area Manager Mike Dombroski said the incident happened as the Fire Service vehicle was on its way to a "significant house fire" in Berhampore.
A large house on Adelaide Rd near the local BP station was badly burnt.
