A man seriously injured in a motorcycle crash in central Auckland on Friday night lost control of his motorbike.
He was seriously injured in the incident on Anzac Ave, when the bike ploughed into the pavement, hitting a pedestrian.
The biker was not hit by a car, as was initially reported, police have confirmed.
Police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said the 49 year-old man lost control while passing a car.
"He came off his bike and has suffered serious injuries," she said.
"His bike slid along Anzac Ave, [which was] unoccupied, and collided with a pedestrian who suffered some minor injuries."
The man was taken to Auckland City Hospital, but police had been unable to speak to him due to the seriousness of his injuries, she said.
Police do not believe any other vehicle was involved in the incident.
The man was in a serious but stable condition at Auckland City Hospital, a hospital spokeswoman said.
