Police have named the person who died in a serious crash in South Canterbury yesterday.
She was 80-year-old Shona McDougall from Timaru.
The crash occurred at the stop-controlled intersection of Scarborough Rd and State Highway 1, south of Timaru, about 3.30pm - causing the road to be closed for four hours.
Ms McDougall was travelling west on Scarborough Rd when her car collided with a southbound utility vehicle, police said.
The passenger in Ms McDougall's car was taken to Timaru Hospital where he was being treated for moderate injuries and the driver of the utility vehicle was treated at the scene.
Canterbury police Sergeant Nerida Manso said Ms McDougall's family was very upset and had requested privacy. They were being supported by Canterbury police and Victim Support.
Police investigations into the crash were ongoing, he said.
