After a tumultuous fortnight, Campbell Live wanted to bring the entertainment tonight and opened the show to the song Let Me Entertain You by Robbie Williams.
Last Monday it was revealed the current affairs show has been under review by MediaWorks, and was called "light entertainment" by Prime Minister John Key in an interview with Newstalk ZB.
Poor ratings were the reason for the review, with MediaWorks saying they wanted a show that would draw a larger audience.
The official Twitter account for the show hinted at the entertainment factor in tonight's show, tweeting: "Coming up at 7, entertainment" and a link to The Jam's song That's Entertainment.
The show's Facebook page said: "Very excited. We have a VERY entertaining show for you tonight."
Tonight's show began with an interview with Sir Peter Jackson and a tour of the Gallipoli: The scale of our war exhibition.
The show closed with John Campbell saying, "We hope you've been entertained, ka kite ano."
Ratings for Campbell Live have jumped since news the television current affairs show may be axed.
The show's Facebook page said if 299,000 people watched tonight, then the average audience for the week would be 300,000.
