A driver is is dead and at least two other people are injured after a three-car crash in Eastern Waikato today.
Mr Jones said the crash occurred shortly before 3pm when one of the vehicles, travelling from Hamilton towards Morrinsville, lost control on a bend and left the road.
The driver has then corrected the vehicle but veered into the oncoming lane and collided with a van and another car.
One person died at the scene.
The two other injured drivers have been taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Mr Jones said police were contact the victim's next of kin before releasing a name.
"It was on a sweeping bend and at the time the conditions were dry and the road appeared to be adequate for the conditions today. "
Heading into winter, Mr Jones reminded motorists to take care on the roads as the weather deteriorates.
The police serious crash unit was on the scene.
Diversions were in place at the eastern end of SH26 at Tauwhare Rd and west at Kuranui Rd.
