As a keen viewer of All Black rugby I have for a long time ranted about the bad habit of clearing kicks. Fortunately the situation is gradually improving. The recent test against Wales was a good example. The game was very even. Then, near the end in 10 minutes there were several tries. Wales cleared the ball to us and we scored. Then they kicked again - it was charged down and we scored again. The lesson is: You cannot score without the ball - keep control - do not give it away.

Michelle, who worked on the door at Vector Arena the night of the New Zealand Music Awards, is an absolute credit to her employer. My friend has multiple sclerosis and has a crutch, and it was a bit of a struggle as both of us as were carrying food and other items. Michelle not only carried the food but also got us relocated to better seats.

While waiting at a pedestrian crossing with my 4-year-old grandson a man drew up beside us on his bike not wearing a helmet. Max pointed out how dangerous this was, and when I conveyed this message to the cyclist I was told: "Don't be an idiot. Find someone else to make an example of." I see many cyclists without helmets and, as well as being dangerous, this is illegal. How are they are allowed to get away with this?

The Elim church guys gave out cold cans of cola on Friday in Whangarei to those of us stuck in the log-jam of traffic that afternoon due to an accident. It was very welcome.

It is international convention when writing decimal numbers to have the whole numbers on the left of the decimal point and the parts/fractions of the whole numbers on the right of the decimal point. So why do the majority of petrol companies advertise their petrol as 207.90 instead of 2.079 ?

Last week I had surgery at North Shore Hospital. I cannot fault the care I received. All the staff were unfailingly polite, efficient, informative, and caring.
