A photo of a woman sitting on a jet ski as it was towed by a truck on Auckland's North-Western motorway is a hoax.
The picture went viral and sparked warnings from police about irresponsible driving.
A northern communications police spokeswoman confirmed today that the 'woman' in the picture was in fact a doll.
"It was definitely a mannequin," she said.
Several people emailed the Herald today and said the woman was in fact a blow-up doll with a wig.
Even if the 'rider' was a life-like mannequin it was clearly a distraction to other road users, Auckland police spokeswoman Noreen Hegarty said.
"Suffice to say, police warn all motorists to be aware of and comply with the road rules so as to ensure the safety of themselves, their passengers and other road users.
"Stupidity on the roads causes heart break in homes."
It was unknown when the picture was taken.
Police said they may release more information later - that's all they would say for now.
