A Waikato man has been arrested following a man's death in the small village of Meremere earlier this month.
Michael Patrick Robert Bull, 49, was found dead in suspicious circumstances at a Meremere property on October 13.
Waikato Detective Senior Sergeant Nigel Keall today announced another 49-year-old man, also from Meremere, had been arrested in relation to three charges of assault on Mr Bull in the months leading up to his death.
"This man has been charged with wounding with intent, assault with a weapon and injuring with intent and he will be appearing in the Hamilton District Court tomorrow in relation to these charges."
A team of detectives was continuing with a homicide investigation into who was responsible for Mr Bull's death, Mr Keall said.
"We're still awaiting the results of forensic examinations and other inquiries before we will be in a position to consider charging anyone in relation to the homicide.
"At this time the inquiry team would like to acknowledge all the support we have received from the Meremere community which has been of great assistance to us however we are still after any further information anyone may have in relation to Mr Bull's death."
Anyone who had information on the events at the Meremere property on October 13 and who hadn't already spoken to investigators was asked to contact the Operation Trailblazer inquiry team at Huntly Police Station on 07 828 7560.
