When Rina Crawford and her family arrived in Northern Ireland after a long flight, they were handed a camera to return to its New Zealand owners.
Mrs Crawford and her husband, George, did not know them, there was no identifying information and the battery was dead, with no charger.
A church friend of Mr Crawford's mother had found the camera while visiting a campsite in Scotland. The campsite owners did not have any contact information and a visit to the police was no use.
Photos taken from a Canon S90 camera that was lost in the UK.
She dropped it off to her friend after learning of the Crawfords' impending visit.
"I think this Irish lady probably thinks that New Zealand has about 20 people. It's a tiny village that they live in in Northern Ireland," Mrs Crawford said.
A five-week trip with three children in tow meant the mystery was not high on the agenda, she said.
Back home in New Zealand, the Westmere family contacted the Herald in the hope of finding the owners.
A selection of the photographs from the recharged camera, which appear to have been taken in 2010, are above.
"We nearly chucked it out in Barcelona and France ... but for some reason it made it back here," Mrs Crawford said.
