The man who died after an incident in Kelston on Tuesday night has been named as 51-year-old Brett Fraser.
A homicide investigation was launched after Mr Fraser's body was found at a warehouse-apartment in Westech Pl in Kelston. A 53-year-old man was also found injured and taken to hospital.
Detective Inspector Bruce Scott confirmed today that a post mortem examination was completed for Mr Fraser, however he would not be drawn on the results.
Mr Fraser lived in an apartment within the converted warehouse with the 53-year-old.
Police were alerted to his death when the 53-year-old called for an ambulance. Mr Scott could not elaborate on the injuries.
He said neither of the men were known to police and it was still unclear what transpired in the lead-up to Mr Fraser's death.
He said Mr Fraser's flatmate was assisting with inquiries "as much as he can"."We're not saying he's a suspect," he said.
Mr Fraser is believed to be a beneficiary who has lived in Auckland for many years.
Officers have also been conducting an area canvas, which includes making door-to-door inquiries of the surrounding residential and industrial area.
Mr Scott said police wanted to hear from anyone who may have witnessed suspicious behaviour in the area on Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
"We're making progress but we need to hear from anyone who may have perhaps seen something that didn't look quite right in that area," he said.
Anyone with information that might help police was asked to call Henderson police on 09 839 0600.
