At 7.30am, two Dominion Rd buses going downtown passed me by as I waited at the bus stop. Signs on the front of the bus were blinking "bus full". But as I watched them pass I could see that people were bunched at the front and there was plenty of room at the back! Why doesn't the bus driver stop the bus and ask the passengers to move it on back. And why don't the passengers scoot to the back to make room for more people? Ugh!!!

The lad who won the spelling bee will go far in life with his attitude. He felt he too would have missed a poorly given word that felled his rival so questioned it on the other's behalf, because he "only wanted to win fairly". Don't we need more kids like that?

The use of the phrase "lying in state" in obituary notices seems to be common these days. Surely this phrase is accorded to heads of state or other dignitaries.

Last week I decided to go up to Cornwall Park for a walk and have a coffee in the new cafe. However, I discovered the new cafe was still not opened. I decided to call into the Information Centre to ask when the cafe would be opened. After discussing the issue the delightful receptionist then said, "Can I make you a coffee or a cup of tea?" How's that for what makes New Zealand a special place to live in!

Being a visitor from the Bay of Islands over the weekend to the wonderful City of Sails, how disappointed I was to see all the inorganic rubbish outside the homes in the upmarket suburb of Takapuna. It did give a ghetto look to the area, with the wind having blown some items down the streets.

We just wanted to share our sincere appreciation for the service provided by Animal Action Ltd, who came to our home when needed on Monday and helped us share the passing of our much-loved cat Jerry. Instead of a frightening trip to the vet and the impersonality of standard euthanasia procedures, he was able to be with his family.
