There are grave fears for the safety of a Hong Kong woman visiting Queenstown who has not been heard from in a week, police say.

Kwei Ying Wong, who also uses the name Joyce, was 63-year-old, but looked younger than her actual age.

She was 160cm tall and weighed about 56 kilograms, Senior Constable Wayne Park said.

She had dark, shoulder-length hair and wore black or purple prescription glasses.

There was no description of what she was last known to be wearing and she had poor spoken English, Mr Park said.

Ms Wong was last seen last Saturday, he said.
