A 20-year-old man has been arrested over an early-morning sexual violation assault at a Christchurch park.

Detective Sergeant Grant Collins said the man had been arrested earlier today in relation to an assault on a sex worker.

The assault occurred in Cambridge Green park, near the intersection of Barbadoes and Salisbury streets, about 2.15am on Friday.

The man was found after police executed a search warrant at a Phillipstown address today, Mr Collins said.

Mr Collins thanked the public for supplying police with information on the man, whose photographs were released over the weekend.

The man will appear in the Christchurch District Court tomorrow. He is facing a charge of assault with intent to commit sexual violation.
