A body has been discovered in a Hamilton suburb today, police say.
Emergency services were called by a member of the public, who made the discovery about 2.30pm, Inspector Andy Brill of northern police communications said.
It was found in the suburb of Riverlea, across from Hammond Park, he said.
"It was on a riverbank amongst some trees."
It was not yet known if the person was a male or female or how old the person was.
Police recovered the body from bushes on the banks of the Waikato River using a boat.
Police said they would not make further comment until the identity had been determined, next of kin notified and the circumstances of the death investigated.
