Man sentenced for pulling crossbow on noise controller

A Mount Maunganui man who called a noise control officer a "nigger'', threatened to kill him and brandished a crossbow at him, has been sentenced to 9-months supervision and 150 hours community work.

Richard Corsican West, 39, who earlier admitted a charge of threatens to kill, was sentenced in Tauranga District Court on Monday. The victim who was known to West had been attending a noise control compliant across the road on December 20 last year when the incident happened.

Judge Thomas Ingram ordered the destruction of the crossbow.
