A large fire has broken out at the Masterton Medical Centre this evening.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in the single-storey centre on Lincoln Rd about 6.40pm, central fire communications shift manager Belinda Beets said.

The 20m by 40m building was well ablaze, she said.

It was not known how many people had been in the medical centre but all had been accounted for.

"As far as we are aware, no one has been injured,'' Ms Beets said.

Crews from five fire trucks were on the scene, while additional crews from Lower Hutt and Wellington were on their way.
