A man who died at Matatoki Quarry yesterday has been named as 47-year-old Morrinsville resident Gavin Wayne Stewart.
Emergency services were called to Matatoki Quarry Rd, near Kopu, just after 1pm.
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter spokesman said on arrival at the scene the crew doctor went to help ambulance paramedics and was told the man was dead.
He is believed to have been hit by a truck.
Because the death occurred in a workplace, the matter was being dealt with by Work Safe New Zealand, police said.
Work Safe said an inspector was on the way to the scene but they had no further details.
A staff member from quarrying company HG Leach & Co said yesterday he had no comment about the incident. The company's website says it operates the Matatoki Quarry.
The coroner is investigating.
