An Otago man has turned a $10 bet into six figures, just a week after a man from a neighbouring town did exactly the same thing.

The mystery Mosgiel man placed a TAB Triple Trio bet last week, after asking for the same bet that Milton man Len Glassford won $300,000 on the week before.

Come the Wellington Cup last Saturday, the Mosgiel gambler became $100,000 richer.

TAB executive general manager Glenn Patrick said it was astonishing that two people who lived so close together had pocketed six-figures sums two weeks in a row.

"Len's win last week made a $10 TAB Triple Trio the hottest bet in town, and who knows, it could pay out big next week too," he said.

This Saturday's $500,000 draw will be at Dunedin's Wingatui Race Course - the local for the two lucky Otago men.

Their good fortune is expected to encourage others punters to have a flutter on the race, hopeful they can repeat their success.

Others look set to try their luck at Crofters Pub and Caf in Mosgiel, where Saturday's winning bet was placed.

It is only the second time the TAB Triple Trio has been played in New Zealand, the company said, proving a lucky start for Kiwis.

"The launch of TAB Triple Trio has been a great success and we're delighted with the results. They show that you don't have to be an expert better, anyone can win," said Mr Patrick.
