2013 saw a barrage of high-profile password leaks, from Telecom's Kiwi email customers to global software giant Adobe.
David Hall of tech software company Symantes says keeping one password for multiple websites can be risky.
"Always have good passwords and change them regularly.

"If you do have different passwords for different websites it actually is safer.''
He says keeping the same or similar passwords can make it easy for attackers to break in to more than one of your online accounts.
