Long-serving Wellington radio host Justin du Fresne is retiring from his Saturday morning Newstalk ZB programme at the end of the year.

Radio Network's Wellington general manager Rhys Nimmo praised du Fresne's commitment over a 50-year career.

"Justin has worked for Newstalk ZB for decades, both as our man in Wellington through the week and latterly on Saturday morning. We're hugely appreciative of his efforts and enormous contribution to the success of the station."

Du Fresne thanked the Wellington people for their support over the years.

"I've had a wonderful stint broadcasting in the Wellington region. It is my home and I've had a great time bringing this show to my listeners since 2011."

The Radio Network said it would expand its Jack Tame Morning Show into the Wellington Region from January 2014.
