A man remains in serious condition this morning after a violent brawl in south Auckland at the weekend.
The man's injuries were so serious that police who found him after the brawl in Papakura on Saturday night initially thought he had been stabbed in the head.
The man was found unconscious and suffering severe head injuries. He was taken to hospital where he had surgery.
Police believed he was hit over the head with a heavy object.
The 30-year-old remained in a serious condition in Auckland Hospital this morning, an Auckland District Health Board spokeswoman said.
Police were called to the Rollerson St address about 8pm after reports of people fighting outside a house party and using knives, sticks and rocks as weapons.
A 21-year-old man will appear in Papakura District Court this morning charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
