Luigi Wewege, a key player in the mayoral sex scandal, has revealed on Facebook that he is engaged in America.
The former political adviser to failed mayoral candidate John Palino fled New Zealand last month following reports of his relationship with Bevan Chuang, a local body political candidate who had an affair with Mayor Len Brown.
``Yayyyyy!!!!!'' Mr Wewege posted on his Facebook page as a caption on a picture of a mystery brunette woman sporting an engagement ring.
A friend posted in response: "Luigi is settling down?! Congratulations buddy!''
He responded: "Indeedee. Thanks for the congrats.''
Another commented: "Honeymoon in NZ?''
Miss Chuang tweeted: "My 'ex' has got engaged to a girl he just met in Florida! How nice! Should I congratulate him? # Luigi#Wewege.''
She told the Herald Mr Wewege has blocked her from his Facebook page and they were no longer "friends'' online.
She found out about his engagement only after she was told by a friend.
"Luigi blocked me on all the social media sites and I no longer follow him,'' Miss Chuang said.
When asked how she felt about the news, Ms Chuang said: "I actually don't have any feelings either way.''
Mr Wewege denied he had been in a relationship with Ms Chuang, but Facebook messages exchanged by the pair released to the Herald by Miss Chuang showed they appeared to have been together.
In the messages, he had repeatedly asked Miss Chuang to go public about her affair with Mr Brown during the election.
