A Kaitaia tutor accused of preying on schoolgirls appeared in court today facing additional charges.
James Brian Sanders, 65, appeared in the Kaitaia District Court today on a raft of sexual offence charges.
Police said the charges included 12 of indecent assault on a female aged under 12 years, another charge of sexual violation of a female aged under 12 years, three charges of indecent assault on a female aged between 12 and 16 years and one charge of assault on a child aged under 14 years.
At today's court appearance, Sanders was remanded in custody. He is due to re-appear in the Kaitaia District Court on November 19.
Police said Sanders had already appeared in court earlier this month for six charges of indecent assault and one charge of sexual violation. The alleged victims were all females, aged under 12 years.
Six of the indecent assault charges for females aged under 12 years, and two of the indecent assault charges for a female aged between 12 and 16, involved several incidents of offending, police said.
"The total of 24 charges involves seven victims.''
"The name of the school and the programme that Sanders has been involved with are suppressed,'' police said.
The allegations against Sanders come just two months after former deputy school principal James Parker was sentenced to preventive detention for 74 charges of preying on young boys.
