A woman's body was found by firefighters who had been called to the property in Auckland today because of a fire.

Police were called to Harding Avenue, Mt Wellington, at 4.10pm.

Investigations are underway by police and the Fire Service to determine whether the fire was suspicious. A scene examination is underway, and the property will remain under police guard overnight.

The dead woman has been identified. Police say she was middle-aged and they are trying to notify her next of kin.

The body has been removed from the scene and a post-mortem examination will be held to confirm the cause of death.
