A burst water transmission main on Auckland's North Shore has been isolated and an electrician is assessing damage to nearby flats.
The main near Greenslade Reserve on Lake Rd in Northcote burst about 8am.
A spokeswoman for Watercare, the Auckland Council's wastewater arm, said water landed on the roofs of several nearby homes.
The break was shut off about three hours later.
An electrician had been called in to assess the damage and insurers were on the way.
"The cause is still unknown," the spokeswoman said.
"Our crews are still there assessing the situation and trying to work out what happened."
The leak did not affecting water supply to the area, she said.
A reader emailed the Herald saying it looked like a geyser.
"Shame to waste so much water! But also a shame it's not summer and public can't use it to cool off?"
