Police want to identify a screwdriver-wielding man who allegedly robbed a west Auckland pharmacy last night.

A man wielding what's thought to be a screwdriver "manhandled" a security guard as he robbed an Auckland pharmacy.

The robber entered the Radius Pharmacy in New Lynn armed with a silver object, thought to be a screwdriver, about 6.50pm on Wednesday July 10.

Detective Michael Clubb said the robber "manhandled" a security guard from the lobby into the shop on the corner of Delta Ave and Veronica St, before threatening staff and demanding cash.

He went behind the counter and opened the tills, removing a small amount of money.

"Police are particularly keen to locate this individual before his offending escalates and someone gets hurt," Mr Clubb said.

The man was captured on security cameras and is described as being a "light-skinned Maori or Polynesian".

He was wearing a black sleeveless hoodie vest, blue T-shirt and camouflage-style green shorts. Under the shorts he appeared to be wearing black leggings with grey ankle socks.

Anyone with information should contact Mr Clubb at Henderson police station on (09) 839 0662.
