Police are seeking the driver of a car that hit a 2-year-old boy in Christchurch earlier this week.

The boy reportedly wandered onto the road and was hit by the car on Curletts Rd in Sockburn at 2.50pm on Tuesday, police said.

The driver stopped and helped, and the child was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

He was kept in overnight and discharged.

The boy's mother, who was at the scene, was upset and no details for the driver or any witnesses were taken.

Police asked for the driver to contact them and also wanted to hear from any witnesses.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Constable Glen Alder at Christchurch Police on 03 363 7460.
