A hui to discuss how to better serve the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and intersex community is being held in Auckland today.

Auckland Council is hosting a forum looking into how to create a strong and equitable society.

Senior project leader at Auckland Council Cissy Rock said it is all part of making Auckland the most liveable city in the world.

"There are some things that are affecting us as a community that need to be dealt with by us as a community so that we can come up with our own solutions."

Ms Rock said they are particularly focused on support for those living in the suburbs.

"We're having isolation, depression, more kind of destructive self-harming behaviours."

She said they are expecting about 100 people at the hui.
