A man nearly drowned in the Northland town of Tutukaka this afternoon.

An ambulance spokesman said emergency services were alerted about the incident at Tutukaka Marina at 1.25pm.

A man had been pulled out of the water by members of the public and had gone into cardiac arrest.

"He's gone under the water and has had no signs of life so CPR was commenced.''

He was revived and flown to hospital in a critical condition.
