This week for our "What I do" series, we'll be speaking to shark scientist and Auckland University PHD candidate Riley Elliott.

Riley, who is doing his PHD in marine science on the habitat use, migration and trophic influence of blue sharks in the marine food chain, is an advocate for the protection of sharks, especially in New Zealand, which is one of the top 15 exporters of shark fins.

As well as spearheading the most robust shark tagging exercise in South Pacific history, Elliott is also involved in research aimed at teaching people how to swim safely in shark territory.

For more information, see Riley's website here.
