'Brutal' assault on Waikato teenager

Police are calling on the public for information about a "brutal" assault on a teenager in the Waikato overnight.

Police and St John ambulance staff were called to Boundary St in Te Aroha about 10.30pm.

On arrival they found a 16-year-old male who had been assaulted by a group four men.

"The victim was taken to Waikato Hospital with a variety of head injuries and bruising to his body and has since been discharged today," said Detective Sergeant Dean Anderson.

One 16-year-old Te Aroha local was arrested at the scene and will appear in the Hamilton Youth Court today.

Police believe they know the identities of the other three, and are continuing their inquiry to find and speak to them.
