Police have confirmed a 46-year-old man who died when his vehicle hit a bank near Tauranga this afternoon was the only person in the vehicle.
The man had been travelling on State Highway 36 in Pyes Pa when his vehicle left the road and hit an embankment at 12.53pm, said Senior Sergeant Ian Campion, the Western Bay of Plenty's officer in charge of road policing.
Police would not release the man's name until family members had been notified, he said.
Police enquiries were continuing and crash analysts had attended the scene.
