A toddler nearly drowned after falling into a public swimming pool yesterday as his mother walked on - unaware of his plight.
Three-year-old Quinn Pybus, of Kaukapakapa, was walking behind his mother when he went into the pool during a child's birthday party at Parakai Springs, north of Helensville.
Family friend Saane Garredd said about 20 adults and children had gathered at the pools for an eighth birthday party.
"No-one saw the boy slip into the pool," Garredd said. "His mother ran back. She jumped in screaming, and the adults were screaming."
One of three lifeguards on duty performed CPR and kept the boy alive.
"Both of the parents are shocked. Luckily he's come back to life."
The Westpac Rescue Helicopter flew Quinn to Starship Hospital about 3.30pm, where he was in a stable condition last night. Pool management were not available to comment.
