A woman in her 60s has been taken to hospital after driving her car through a fence and into a house in Waihi this afternoon.
The woman was believed to be driving home from Cooks Beach in the Coromandel, Waihi Chief Fire Officer Moe Stevens said.
"We assume she went to sleep and veered off the road and went through a fence and into an older house that was being done up."
No one was at the property when the car smashed into it today however the house suffered "quite a bit of damage", Mr Stevens said.
"A little porch on the front of the house has been completely demolished."
Mr Stevens said the female driver was injured in the accident and was taken to Thames Hospital by a St John ambulance crew.
