Man arrested for alleged assault in South Canterbury

A 32-year-old man has been arrested for an alleged assault which left a 33-year-old man with serious head injuries in the South Canterbury town of Temuka.

Police were called following a report of fighting outside the Crown Hotel about 8.50pm on Saturday.

A man was taken to Christchurch Hospital with a serious head injury, while a man and a woman received medical treatment and were discharged.

Police said a 32-year-old man was arrested for an assault on a 33-year-old man which occurred inside the bar area and will appear before the Timaru District Court tomorrow.

Timaru Police are interested in speaking to anyone who witnessed the incident or has information relating to what occurred.
